Last week, I finally felt a cool breeze on my walk to class. While I do enjoy summer, and these past months were a great time, being back on campus has gotten me excited for the “-ber” months. So, with October in full swing, here are some songs to get you in the fall mood.
- "Open Season" - High Highs
Any "Pitch Perfect" fans may recognize this song from a scene in the first movie of the trilogy. This song very much says “autumn" to me, and always reminds me of being on campus for the fall semester.
2. "Lovefool" - The Cardigans
“Lovefool” from the Cardigans is a bit more upbeat and has been a song I return to this time every year. I love this song and you could easily catch me singing it on my drive to class.
3. "Follow You Down" - Gin Blossoms
I can’t remember where I first heard “Follow You Down," but this soft rock song is now one of my fall staples. It feels like the type of song you would hear in an early 2000s rom-com.
4. "Duvet-Acoustic" - bôa
I have always loved the original “Duvet” by bôa, but since finding the acoustic version I can now say it is my favorite between the two. Something about its softness immediately transports me to the perfect autumn day.
5. "(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay" - Otis Redding
Growing up on the coast, this song always reminds of chilly walks on the beach. Maybe this is me yearning for a weekend trip home, but I felt it had to have a spot on this playlist.
6. "It’s Too Late" - Carole King
"Gilmore Girls," pumpkin spice and knit sweaters. Three basic fall things but all what I think of when I hear this classic song by Carole King.
7. "Abandoned Mansion" - Dr. Dog
Only recently did I discover the song “Abandoned Mansion” by Dr. Dog, but I find it absolutely beautiful and fitting for this list. It sounds sad but almost cozy at the same time and it highly deserves a listen.
8. "Amoeba" - Clairo
While I tend to associate Clairo’s "Charm" album with summer, her albums "Sling" and "Immunity" are my favorites for the fall and winter seasons. This sweet, soft song would be ideal in a coffee shop with a hot chai.
9. "Wish I Knew You" - The Revivalists
A more upbeat song, “Wish I Knew You” has to be my favorite from the Revivalists and reminds me a bit of Mt. Joy’s “Dirty Love," another song I adore. I would love to listen to this on a drive through the mountains.
10. "Montezuma" - Fleet Foxes
To end this playlist, I’ve picked this song from Fleet Foxes, an essential artist for fall. Honestly, I think I first heard this song in the eccentric show, "Girls."
