DJ Mari's Looks of the Week

Long time no see! We are back with Mari's Looks of the Week, and I’ve got some good ones to show off! Since spring break was just last week and I went to Puerto Rico, I spent a concerning amount of money on some of these pieces. Even though I’ll have them forever, I will begin to get my money’s worth now! I didn't really know the vibes I wanted to give so I just kind of picked pieces that spoke to me and matched my color palette, which is truly a saving grace and the first step to finding your style, in my opinion. Anyways, without further ado, here are my looks from spring break.

I genuinely love this outfit so much. Over the trip, I realized orange is another color that compliments my skin tone, so you better believe I’m going to look for more orange pieces in the future. The sequin cami top is from Princess Polly. I loved the way it fit and was a bit concerned with the back since the tie was the only thing holding it up, but it survived the entire night! The capris are thrifted pants from Goodwill that I cut to my heart's content. I believe the sandals are from Ross which you can never go wrong with because I got two for like $30. The main staple of the outfit (besides the shirt) is the belts, one of which I got one from Rue21 and the other at Lovisa, a really nice jewelry place at the Columbiana Mall! A great look and definitely one I’ll revisit.

This next one is something I’ve been itching to wear forever. The black button up with gold and brown patterns was thrifted at the Salvation Army for literally $10. I got it about a year ago but had never worn it until now because I never had a place to wear it. The brown and gold accents on the shirt really suit me and are colors I know always look good on me! The belt is once again making an appearance as it did the entire trip because it just goes with everything and I only wear gold jewelry. The cargo shorts are another art project, as they were originally baggy, oversized pants, but in my creative spell, I decided to cut them into shorts which filled my mid-2000s fashion heart with joy. Once again, I am wearing sandals since those are the only shoes I packed.

This was my ultimate favorite look of the week, and it all has to do with the shirt. It’s an open-back, beaded, plum shirt from Princess Polly and it’s the love of my life. The cut of the shirt is really nice and the material is really comfortable, which is nice if you wore it for 6+ hours like I did. The color alone is my favorite to wear since plum always looks good on me and it especially complimented my tanned skin. The pants are cut-up jeans from Levi’s that were getting worn and torn, so I simply cut them up to make another pair of capris. The statement belt tied brings yet another outfit together. The outfit, while nothing crazy, looks good on me and all the darker colors really just match my vibe well.

The theme for this week's looks was for sure knowing your color palette. It took me a few years to get the science of my palette down and that orange cami is making me start to question things. For the most part, darker tones are where I shine. While it is primarily trial and error, figuring out colors that look good on you--- and most importantly--- make you feel good, changes the game. Once you've got this down, feeling like nothing looks good on you can be instantly remedied by tweaking your color palette. This is your homework for the week: find your color palette and keep it in mind next time you go shopping!
