What is it? And, why is it becoming more popular?

I really like looking into what my friends are listening to, it feels weird to say I stalk my friends' Spotify accounts but it has basically become a weekly habit for me. It’s how I tend to find new artists and albums I haven’t heard before, plus I like seeing what dumb names people have for their playlists. As of recently though I’ve come across a surprising amount of my friends playlists that will have a very specific title, these playlists would always peak my interest and the second I click on it, there's just two songs and a cobweb in the corner. An absolute nothing playlist.
Like what is even the end goal here? Via my lovely friend.
I’m writing this article as a type of self discovery, figuring out why this angers me so much. I feel like the whole point of a playlist is to have a decently long lineup of songs that you can simply press one button, and guarantee you are in for a good time. There are only two playlists I ever use, both being over 20 hours long each. I can press play, and guarantee a certain vibe but I will always have some variety of what plays next in the shuffle. Having two songs on the other hand, what is even the point? Just play the two songs you care to listen to back to back. No playlist necessary.
I know I sound like a playlist snob, and to an extent, I totally am without a doubt. I asked my previously mentioned friend about his reasoning for this and this is the answer he gave me, “Love of the game without boundaries of making a large, curated experience. My playlists exist in my context most of the time, meaning that if three individual songs make me feel a certain way that other songs don’t, then those three songs will exist in their one category within my auditory enjoyment.” Though that might be the most annoying answer ever it does give me at least some closure on the topic as it makes just a little bit of sense.
