The new year is here, and we are excited for all of the new music that this year will bring us! Whether they have confirmed releases or speculated albums, there are a number of artists that we are looking forward to hearing new music from. The following is a selection of a few of our most anticipated releases in alphabetical order:

In their first-ever concert in South Carolina, Hippo Campus sure knew how to bring down the house. Hailing from Minnesota, Hippo Campus combines indie-rock music with electronic sounds, along with some trumpets thanks to DeCarlo Jackson. Other members are Jake Luppen (lead vocals/guitar), Nathan Stocker (lead guitar/vocals), Zach Sutton (bass/keyboard), and Whistler Isaiah Allen (drums/vocals). They formed in 2013 and released their first EP (Tarzan Rejects) in the same year. Their concert in Columbia was on November 1st at The Senate venue, standing room only.

Ah, the end of a decade. No better time to look back and take a glance at how things played out over the past ten years, what changed and what didn't. It's been a tumultuous decade, a decade that made us all realize how much can really change in the span of ten years. In 2010, purchasing and downloading music on your phone or iPod instantly was something new and exciting, a revolutionary way of discovering and listening to music. In 2019, streaming music is the norm, our music libraries are bigger than ever, and CDs are considered vintage.
On Thursday, October 24th, Badflower, Dead Poet Society, and Weathers came to play at The Senate. This was my second time going to The Senate, the first being for the pride afterparty last month. The Senate is a pretty good location, basically just an indoor stage and a bar, but what else do you really need from a concert venue? They were nice enough to allow me to attend for free, so, very much appreciated.

Mt. Joy is classified as an indie rock band, but they also combine elements of folk into their songs. They are based in Los Angeles and consist of Matt Quinn (vocals, guitar), Sam Cooper (guitar), Sotiris Eliopoulos (drums), Jackie Miclau (keyboards), and Michael Byrnes (bass). Mt. Joy released their first single, “Astrovan”, in 2016, followed up with singles “Sheep," “Cardinal," and “Silver Lining” in 2017. In 2018 they released their self-titled album consisting of thirteen songs, including the polished-up versions of singles released previously. The band has performed at many music festivals, including Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza, as well as opening for Whitney, The Revivalists, and The Head and the Heart (read about TH&TH concert here).

The Head and the Heart is an indie-folk band currently on their Living Mirage tour throughout North America to advertise their new album "Living Mirage." The band is from Seattle, Washington and consists of Jonathan Russell (percussion, guitar, vocals), Charity Rose Thielen (violin, guitar, vocals), Matt Gervais (guitar, vocals), Chris Zasche (bass), Kenny Hensley (piano), Tyler Williams (drums), and Josiah Johnson (percussion, guitar, vocals, on hiatus). I was lucky enough to get tickets from a friend for their show in Charlotte at the Charlotte Metro Credit Union Amphitheater on September 29th. The Moon Doggies opened, but I only got there in time to hear their last song.
