In this series, we feature CDs from our very own music library reviewed by DJs past and present. This week's feature is local(ish) Greenville artist Coma Cinema with his 2011 album release Blue Suicide. Coma Cinema was a hit within the indie community from the very first album Baby Prayers (2009) and has been featured on popular music sites like Pitchfork ever since. Although Coma Cinema officially disbanded in 2017 (frontman Matthew Lee Cothran said he felt he had said all he wanted to say), he continued making music with various collaborators in his current band Elvis Depressedly, which was formed right here in Columbia. Listen to the album for yourself here and let us know in the comments if you agree with this DJ's review!
Local musician & senior entertainment management major Cammi Boon has spent the last few months putting together a music festival along with other musically-driven USC students. In addition to production, Boon is also performing at the festival this Thursday with the locally known "Best Band Below Blossom" Bull Street Garage. The Philadelphia native has been dabbling in all things music since middle school, from touring across the country at 18, singing both covers and originals alike, and putting on music productions in her hometown. WUSC DJ Groove Girl sat down with Boon to talk about the upcoming 2nd annual Colaroo fest and who Boon is as an artist.
WUSC DJ McKenna Bright sat down with Atlanta-based indie group Lunar Vacation ahead of their performance at Shaky Knees to discuss their debut album Inside Every Fig is a Dead Wasp, their mutual appreciation for Sean Kingston, tour bus must-haves and more! Check out the Lunar Vacation interview below!
Indigo De Souza is a rising indie musician from Asheville, North Carolina. In the summer of 2021, she released her sophomore album Any Shape You Take, which has now received praise for its emotional and unique perspective on death, heartbreak, and friendship. I had the pleasure of interviewing De Souza for WUSC. Check out the interview below to see some insight behind the album, childhood memories and a retelling of a crazy life performance!
This year, Shaky Knees was kind enough to grant me a media credential for their first music festival since 2019, and it made for one of the best weekends of my life. As soon as I saw this year’s lineup, I knew I wanted to go, and having the opportunity to be there representing WUSC was such an unbelievable experience.
This past weekend (October 22-24), I had the privilege of attending Atlanta’s best music festival: Shaky Knees. It’s a three-day festival with a consistently fantastic lineup of famous and up-and-coming artists alike, ranging from indie and punk to pop and hip hop, and everything in between.

This year’s Shaky Knees was my first time attending all three days of a music festival, and it was a spectacular experience. However, there are some things I wish I had known before attending, so here’s a bit of advice for those thinking about hitting up next year’s Shaky Knees:
