Our inaugural show for the 2021-2022 school year was this past Saturday! The show featured an all women line-up with appearances by familiar WUSC collaborators Business School and headliner Paisley & The Birdwalkers. We also featured two new WUSC acts Kismet Kind and Jody Jackson. Thanks to the New Brookland Tavern for hosting, and to everyone that came out! Below are some photos and impressions of the concert. If you missed it, never fear, we got a lot coming up on the docket.

MJ Lenderman is the secret ingredient to many music review websites’ new favorite band, Wednesday, from Asheville, NC. His backing vocals on “Billboard” and “November” made them my favorite songs on their 2020 release, and helped make their latest release, Twin Plagues, one of the best albums of 2021.

This has been one of my most highly anticipated albums this year. Jack Antonoff permeates the music industry, whether it’s his involvement in Taylor Swift’s Folklore/evermore (plus every album from 1989 onwards) or Lana Del Rey’s NFR! and Chemtrails Over the Country Club, and he has become vital in the creation of modern pop albums.

Bands that are able to be both stark oxymorons and close complements, in two different genre worlds, yet simultaneously able to mesh together like puzzle pieces, are hard to find. This is exactly what I was thinking going into a concert with the bands Mannequin Pussy and Japanese Breakfast.

Armand Hammer is a hip hop group from New York City composed of two artists: ELUCID and billy woods. They released their first creation as a group, the mixtape Half Measures, back in 2013. Since then, they have recorded six more albums together, winning awards in multiple online music outlets. Earlier this year, they released Haram, featuring none other than The Alchemist as their sole producer (save for “God’s Feet”, co-produced by Earl Sweatshirt.)
